In the Maldives, there are both “Resorts” and “Local Islands” where
the Maldivian locals live and stay.
The depths of the internet are filled with misleading information, Photoshopped images that claim that paradise is
everywhere in the Maldives, with beautiful palm trees beautifully entwined in crystal-clear
lagoons, which unfortunately is especially true for these local islands.
Our recommendations
Having visited these islands many times ourselves, we have drawn a firm conclusion based on personal experience. To truly enjoy what we consider the authentic Maldives paradise, we recommend exclusively 5-star and 5-star plus resorts—and we remain committed to this standard. In our view, local and authentic experiences are better suited to other exotic destinations.
The budget to expect per person, staying in a double room or villa for a 7-night period, starts at approximately €3,500 to €4,500 for a quality stay on these islands—where you will experience the Maldives as we know and share them. These prices include international flights, hotel accommodation, transfers to and from Malé, and all applicable taxes.
Of course, please keep in mind that during calendar holidays such as Easter, Christmas, and New Year’s (the peak season with the highest prices of the year), rates are higher and availability is more limited.
